I have read a lot of first messages. The ones that get an answer are short, specific and easy to reply to. The ones that do not are long, general and end in a wall.
What works
- Say who you are in one line. "Hi Nok, it's Dave, the tall one from Tuesday with the terrible dancing." Now she knows which of the men she met this week is writing.
- Ask one thing she can answer in a word. "Are you working tonight?" gets "yes" and a conversation. "So tell me about yourself" gets nothing, because it is a job.
- Write it when she is awake. Her evening is your afternoon. A message sent at her three in the afternoon is read before her shift.
What does not
- A paragraph. In translation it becomes a wall of Thai, and walls do not get read on a phone in a bar.
- A compliment about her looks. She has had four today. Tell her something about your day instead.
- A question about money, other men, or when she will visit you. All three end conversations, translated or not.
If you have never met
Some men write to women they found on the front page rather than at a bar. That works too, and the same rules apply, with one more: say why her. "You said you like football" beats "you look nice" every time, because the first one proves you read her page.
Your first messages here are free, so the cost of trying is nothing. The cost of a long clever one is that it does not get read.
